What is Hearing Loss?

Hearing loss is a condition where an individual experiences reduced ability to perceive sounds compared to those with “normal hearing.” Hearing impairment can range from mild to severe and affect your ability to hear in noisy environments. Hearing loss can affect one ear (unilateral) or both (bilateral) and may be temporary or permanent.

Over 38 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss and many wait an average of 7 years before seeking help. Don’t wait to hear better, contact us today and take control over your hearing health!

Types of Hearing Loss

There are three primary types of hearing loss:
Sensorineural hearing loss occurs due to damage to the inner ear (cochlea) or the hearing nerve. This type is often permanent and can be caused by aging, genetics, noise exposure, or underlying health conditions.
Conductive hearing loss is the result of sound waves being unable to reach the inner ear due to issues in the outer or middle ear. Causes can include earwax build-up, fluid in the ear, or structural abnormalities.
Mixed hearing loss is a combination of conductive and sensorineural factors, indicating problems in both the outer/middle ear and the inner ear.

Why Managing Hearing Loss Matters

Early detection and intervention of hearing loss is crucial, because when left untreated, hearing loss can lead to social isolation, communication difficulties, cognitive decline, and diminished quality of life. Regular hearing assessment and protective measures against excessive noise can help maintain hearing health, now and for the future.
