Know The Do’s And Don’ts Of Hearing Aids

The ability of hearing is a gift and at the Santa Clarita Hearing Center we want to prolong your hearing abilities for a long time.

Hearing aids are one way to do just that. Hearing devices can pick up sounds you may not hear clearly, and keeping them in the best shape will help your hearing strong for the long run. Caring for your hearing aids is quite simple and takes only a few minutes to clean. You can clean your hearing aids by wiping them off with a dry, soft cloth to remove earwax regularly, keep them away from water or cleaners at all times, and changing out the wax filters inside the hearing aid every two months will assure your hearing aids pick up crisp sound until it’s time to change filters again, as we recommend.

When storing your hearing aids it’s best to keep them away from any moisture and keep them inside their respective case with the battery door open when not in use.

These can be a choking hazard to pets and kids so keep them far away. Humidity and moisture can damage the hearing aids, so keeping them in a cool, dry place will solve that. If your hearing aid does get wet, please call us at the Santa Clarita Hearing Center and schedule an appointment to check for damage and possible repairs and open up the battery door in the meantime to dry out any wet spots in the hearing aids and then remove the battery itself.

Hairspray, sunscreen, and makeup pose a threat in the care of your hearing aids so we advise taking them off while applying these and it will prolong the life of your hearing aids, too.

The batteries are the most important part of these devices, so making sure these stay dry and work properly is super important to be able to hear perfectly. If there is any damage or corrosion to the battery, it needs to be replaced. Batteries typically need to be swapped out for new ones every 5-21 days depending on size, style, and frequent use of the hearing aids. The gift of hearing is essential for everyone, so take care of those ears! We are here to help you so you can have the best hearing of your life.
