The Damage Of Air Pods In The Long Run

Hosts Dr. Gene Dorio and Barbara Cochran of the Senior Hour radio show are joined by Dr. Ginny Veloz of the Santa Clarita Hearing Center to discuss the long-term effect of hearing loss on wearing air pods for too long and too loud.

Dr. Dorio asks Dr. Veloz if wearing air pods on both ears will cause hearing loss.

“It depends on what we’re listening to through those air pods and it depends on the level of volume,” Dr. Veloz says. “And it depends on how many hours we’re listening.”

Before many people would use speakers to listen to their music but air pods make it easier to use which people need to be careful on how long it is in their ears. Dr. Veloz says that as long as it is a phone call they should be fine but any loud music will do damage.

Earphones used to be the source that ruins our hearing but now it is air pods.

It is now the younger generation that are experiencing signs of hearing loss due to air pods. According to Dr. Veloz, to decrease the likelihood of developing hearing loss parents can limit how loud the volume can get on the iPhone.

In schools hearing screenings are provided to kindergarten, second grade, fifth grade, seventh grade and twelfth grade to detect any hearing loss. If they do not pass their hearing test, then they are referred to the Santa Clarita Hearing Center to do a full audiological evaluation.

“We’re doing more damage by listening to loud sounds,” Dr. Veloz said.
