At Santa Clarita Hearing Center, we encourage our clients to take proper care of their hearing aids so they can last a lifetime.
Hearing aids are expensive and require proper maintenance. Proper maintenance will help you extend their lifespan and avoid repairs. You would not want to risk replacing a hearing aid because of neglectfulness.
There are four guidelines to follow if you wear hearing aids:
-
Cleaning
-
Storing
-
Care
-
Hearing Aid Batteries
For the cleaning step, you should wipe your hearing aids daily and remove earwax with a cloth and brush. Keep your hearing aids dry and do not clean them with water or cleansers. Change the wax filters every one to two months to keep sounds crisp. Next, store your hearing aids in a dehumidifier kit to reduce moisture. You can leave the battery door open as well when you are not wearing your hearing aid. Avoid putting your hearing aid in any other place except the protective case. Putting a hearing aid in your pocket can cause damage to it and cause you to potentially lose it. This is an extremely important step because it takes a lot of responsibility to make sure you put them in the case every single time.
Remove your hearing aids before showering, swimming or sweating. If your device accidentally gets wet, open the battery door and remove the battery. Immediately call our office to schedule an appointment so we can make sure nothing becomes damaged. Our normal personal hygiene routines might have to be altered while wearing hearing aids. You can still use products such as hair spray, sunscreen, lotion and makeup. However, make sure to remove your hearing aid before using these products. They can damage your device.
Make sure to schedule routine maintenance and performance checks for your hearing aids at Santa Clarita Hearing Center.
