On the KHTS Senior Hour, Dr. Ginny Veloz of the Santa Clarita Hearing Center spoke with the hosts about hearing health, opportunities for the hearing impaired, and other updates in the hearing health community, including a common problem among aging adults.
Senior Hour hosts Barbara Cochran and Dr. Gene Dorio invited guest Dr. Ginny Veloz, owner of and practitioner at Santa Clarita Hearing Center to talk about hearing health on the show.
A topic that arose, and is sure to be a common topic in many Santa Clarita homes, was hearing loss. How it starts, how to identify it, and how to come to terms with it no matter your age.
According to Dr. Veloz, hearing loss can occur for any number of reasons, age being one of them. People often experience hearing loss much younger than 80, sometimes even as young as 40 years old, commented Dr. Dorio.
As with many other symptoms of aging, hearing loss can be difficult to identify and accept. Due to the gradual and slow nature of hearing loss, one can easily become adapted to hearing loss and not even notice the difference.
Some signs of hearing loss you can be on the lookout for according to Santa Clarita Hearing Center’s Dr. Veloz are asking people to repeat themselves, difficulty hearing over the phone, having to turn the TV volume very high, leaning towards people speaking, and having a hard time ordering in restaurants. Look out for these in yourself and your loved ones, and acknowledge it might be time to look into getting your hearing tested.
Dr. Veloz reassured listeners that getting your hearing tested is just about as easy as sitting down and wearing headphones. She explained that a hearing test is listening to sounds or repeating words back to a hearing health professional. You can get an answer in under an hour with no pain or discomfort.
