Santa Clarita Hearing Center is working with the Veterans Administration to offer hearing tests and hearing aids to veterans in need.
“The Veterans Associations have been so backed up, and especially with COVID closing down a lot of their clinics, these poor people … are in need of a lot of help,” said Dr. Ginny Veloz. “So there’s providers like myself who have said we’ll help out; let us help out.”
Santa Clarita Hearing Center is contracted with the Veterans Administration as a result, and is able to offer hearing tests and hearing aids for veterans with hearing loss.
Hearing loss, as well as tinnitus, which causes ringing in the ears, not only stem from noise exposure common for military service members, but also by exposure to certain native illnesses and gases, according to Veloz.
“There’s a lot that these veterans are exposed to and go through, and my feeling is, they should be put at the top of the list and treated with respect and given what they need as thanks (for) protecting our country,” Veloz said.
Living with hearing loss and tinnitus without treatment decreases quality of life and also can keep veterans from being able to work again, Veloz continued.
“It creates a problem with our veterans getting jobs because they’re simply not able to hear or their tinnitus is something that keeps them from feeling comfortable out and about,” she said.
Veloz’s goal for offering hearing tests and hearing loss treatment to veterans at Santa Clarita Hearing Center is to help veterans improve their quality of life by being able to hear better and get tinnitus relief.
“We’re really proud at Santa Clarita Hearing Center to be able to provide those services to our veterans,” Veloz said. “We have the utmost respect and we want to do whatever we can to serve our veterans and provide back just a fraction of what they’ve done for us.”
The Santa Clarita Valley isn’t the only service area of Santa Clarita Hearing Center; veterans from the Antelope Valley, parts of the San Fernando Valley, Frazier Park and the Gorman area can also turn to Santa Clarita Hearing Center for assistance, Veloz added.
“So whoever needs the assistance, they can call our office,” she said. “We’ll put them in touch with the people they need to speak to.”
